field recording
Field recording is a term for capturing sound from out in the field (which can be anywhere) rather than in a studio. You can field record with special equipment (like my portable kit detailed below) or with just a cell phone. I record sometimes in nature, sometimes in urban areas and sometimes at home.

One day I might do something cool with my recordings, but for now I enjoy it as a practice to get myself outside, collect "found sound" artifacts I find interesting, and connect and experiment with my environment.
